Overview
Passkeys are special software codes that are stored securely on a device like a phone or a computer. When you set up a passkey for your account on a device, you're able to log in with that device more quickly. It reduces the risk of account compromise from MFA attacks while removing the need to enter numeric codes. Because passkeys are more resistant to phishing attacks, they help safeguard access to BJU accounts and data without disrupting your normal workflow.

Passkey Setup
Passkeys can be created and used with many different mobile apps such as the Microsoft Authenticator app, 1Password, and the Apple Passwords app.
Microsoft Authenticator App
- In a web browser, go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
- Select “Add a sign-in method.”

- Select "Passkey in Microsoft Authenticator."

- Confirm that your phone meets the minimum requirements.
If you do not have the Microsoft Authenticator app installed, you can download it from your phone's app store. It will have the blue padlock icon.
After installing the app for the first time, go back to the web browser and select "Add it now" to go through the steps of adding your BJU account to the app.
If you already have the Authenticator app set up, select "Next."

- On your mobile device, open Microsoft Authenticator.
- In the app, open your BJU Microsoft Account and select “Create a Passkey.”

- Select "Sign-in."
- Follow the prompts to verify your identity with your existing MFA method.

- Your mobile device will create a passkey and will prompt you for your FaceID, fingerprint, PIN, or default login method.

- When your device has completed the process, go back to your web browser computer and select "Next."
Your Passkey is now set up and available for use!

1Password App & Browser Extension
These steps require that you already have the 1Password app or browser extension installed.
- In a web browser, go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
- Select “Add a sign-in method.”

- Select "Passkey," then select "Next."
|

For the 1Password Browser Extension
- If the 1Password browser extension is installed, you will receive a pop-up asking to save the Passkey to your Microsoft Account. Select "Save."
- Name the new Passkey and select "Next."
Your Passkey is now saved and available for use!

For the 1Password Desktop App
- If the 1Password desktop app is installed, ensure 1Password is selected in the Windows pop-up. Select "Allow."
- Enter your password or pin to your computer to verify your identity.

- In the 1Password pop-up select "Save."
- Name the new Passkey and select "Next."
Your Passkey is now saved and available for use!

Apple Passwords App
If you have an iPhone, you can add a passkey to your Apple Passwords app.
- In a web browser, go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
- Select “Add a sign-in method.”

- Select "Passkey," then select "Next."
|

- In the Windows Security Pop-Up select "Change."
|

- Select "iPhone, iPad, or Android device."
- Ensure your Bluetooth is enabled on both your iPhone and workstation.

- A QR code will appear on your screen Scan the code with your iPhone camera.
- On your phone, choose to save the Passkey. When prompted, verify your identity by FaceID or PIN.

- Name your Passkey in your web browser and select "Next."
Your Passkey is now saved and available for use!
