Connecting to Network Drives on Mac

Summary

This article provides instructions on how to mount network drives manually on a Mac.

Body

Network drives on a Mac may not be automatically mounted at login and will need to be mounted manually. This includes the "Staff" drive and the "Home" drive. (Access to these drives are granted by your supervisor and/or IT.) 

  • Mounting the Staff and Home drive
    • After logging in, check to see if the "Staff" network drive is on the desktop. If not, continue with these instructions

    • While in Finder, press the cmd+K keys to open the "Connect to Server" window.
    • In the address bar, type "smb://bju.edu/staff".
    • Click the "+" in the bottom left to save the Staff drive path.
    • In the address bar, type "smb://bju.edu/home".
    • Click the "+" in the bottom left to save the Home drive path.
    • Your window should look like the image below, and the drive should prompt you for your credentials.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
    • Going forward, to open the staff or home drives, you must open this window (cmd+k) and double click on the drive you wish to browse.
    • A shortcut to files inside the drives can be created in finder by dragging the desired file or folder to the favorites section on the left panel of finder as seen below.Uploaded Image (Thumbnail)
