Changes to the Guest Wi-Fi Network

Body

Why is the BJU-Guest network changing?

As technology becomes obsolete, upgrades are necessary to maintain healthy systems. IT is in the process of upgrading Wi-Fi in many academic locations on campus and some of the outdoor spaces as well. With these upgrades comes a new guest network management system that will not support the old guest network. But the new system will enable you to help visitors get online more quickly and easily!

How will the process change for granting Wi-Fi access to visitors?

With the new system all BJU Inc. and BJUEG employees will be able to authorize visitors on an individual basis using the new BJU Employee Sponsorship process. Your guests can just enter your work email address, their name and email address, and submit an email request to you. You open the email, click to approve, and you are done! This means that if a small number of people walk in for a meeting and need guest access, you or any other employee will be able to get them up and running in no time.

But what about a large group of visitors? Large groups can be accommodated through Voucher Authentication, a code that can be used by multiple visitors to access the new guest network called BJU-Visitor. If you need a voucher code to grant Wi-Fi access to a large group of visitors, you can contact the Welcome Center (Andrew Carter/acarter@bju.edu) for a voucher code.

If your department needs to generate its own voucher codes, you can open a TDX Service Request to request to be set up for that option.

When should I begin directing visitors to the new BJU-Visitor network?

The best time to make this transition is as soon as the BJU-Visitor network goes live on February 20th. As buildings are upgraded with new and improved Wi-Fi, the old BJU-Guest network will no longer be available in those locations. So, if you want your guests to have the best coverage possible across all of campus, they will need to use the new BJU-Visitor network.

How long can I continue using the old BJU-Guest network?

Starting February 20th the old BJU-Guest network will begin to disappear in buildings as their upgrades are completed. In late March, IT will completely remove the old BJU-Guest network across campus to ensure a unified guest experience on the new BJU-Visitor network.
