Frequently Asked Questions About the Campus Network

Is my internet activity tracked?

Internet accountability will be tracked to the owner of the device, so please use discretion when loaning your device to a friend. Do not let any device out of your sight while another student is using it, and be sure to password protect all devices with a lock screen.

What if I sell my device to another person on campus?

You must contact the IT Support Center to let them know that you are selling your device. The Support Center will de-register the device so that you will no longer be associated with the BJU-Campus network activity on the device.

What happens if my username changes?

In some cases, your BJU username may change. For example, if you become a graduate assistant, you will receive a different username and email address. If your device was registered under a previous student username, you will lose network access when that account expires. Visit the IT Support Center (AL 207) for assistance with resolving this problem.

What if I couldn't get the instructions to work?

For support with the BJU-Campus Wi-Fi network, visit the IT Support Center (AL 207). For support with the My-ResNet network in the dorms, contact Apogee (Boldyn Networks) support.

Can I connect to the BJU network with a network cable?

Students may connect to the internet using an ethernet cable where ports are available. Not all ports in a room may be active. If your device does not connect, try another port. In the residence halls, report issues to Apogee (Boldyn Networks) support. For all other campus locations, call IT Support at 864-335-0673.

Do I need anti-virus protection?

The University requires that all computers have anti-virus protection. All students with a Windows computer must have a reputable anti-virus on their computer. Mac users are strongly encouraged to install a security suite as well. Some acceptable free anti-virus programs include Windows Security (pre-installed on Windows computers), AVAST!, and AVG. Computers that do not meet this qualification may have their internet disabled until the program is installed and the definitions are current. To keep your device secure, please make sure that your operating system is receiving updates regularly. Updates are critical to reduce vulnerabilities.

Can my internet access be disabled?

Yes, under some situations, your access to a Wi-Fi network may be temporarily blocked. If it is suspected that your device is vulnerable, compromised, or being used for questionable/illegal activity, access may be blocked, but you will be notified about the action and what you need to do to have service restored.
