Canvas creates a course for each section. While this can be helpful to some instructors, it may prove cumbersome to others. You can use the following steps to combine your sections into one course.
Click on the images to see them full-size.
NOTE: You should combine or cross-list sections before a course is published. If a student has done any work in a published course, it will be left behind.
1. Choose which course you would like to use as the main course into which the other sections will be joined. Content from the other courses will be lost as they're added into the main course.
2. In the main course, click Settings in the course menu.
3. In the Course Details tab, copy the SIS ID (usually six digits). Avoid copying any extra spaces.

4. Go to the course for a section you want to bring into the main course, and in course Settings click the Sections tab.
5. Under Course Sections, click the blue link for the section
|
|
6. In the menu at the right side of the page, click Cross-List this Section. |
|
7. Enter the Course’s ID and press the Enter key on your keyboard to see the selected course.
NOTE: You can search for the course instead of using the ID, but if you have multiple sections, it may be difficult to identify the correct course to use.
8. Click Cross-List this Section.
Note: If you receive a message that the section cannot be cross-listed, check to make sure you have not copied or entered any spaces as part of the course’s ID.

Repeat these steps to combine as many sections as needed into the one course.
Note: If you make a mistake and need to undo the cross-listing, contact the IT Support Center or submit a Canvas LMS ticket
here.
